Zumo 550 XM Issue
I just bought the Garmin Zumo 550 GPS with the GXM30 satellite radio antenna. XM radio customer service is telling me that I cannot sign up for regular SM satellite audio for this antenna/radio unless I also sign up for some very pricey aviator weather package. The packages run from $35 to over $100 per month. WTF?!!! I see many threads here where people have the Zumo 550 and have XM radio. I did not see where anyone was stuck with some aviator weather package just to get audio channels. Can anyone here with a Zumo 550 and the optional XM radio please let me know how to get signed up for the usual $12.95/month package without all the BS? Thanks!

As far as I know, that is BS. I'm paying something like 12.95 a month for XM. Maybe things have changed since I subscribed. Either that or you need to call a different XM rep.
You might find some answers online at the XM website. http://www.xmradio.com/whatisxm/plans-pricing.xmc |
Total BS... Sign up online...

This is not right. You should not have to purchase that expensive pkg to hear only XM tunes. I have the HD Road Tech gps with the HD XM satellite antenna. That unit is the Zumo 550 with a few extra software features. I have the XM mostly music pkg for $36.96 quarterly.
Call the customer service during the daytime hours and hopefully you will get an English speaking rep. |
I have the GXM 30 satellite antenna. Is that the same antenna you guys are using? XM is telling me that is an aviation antenna.

Total BS. Sign up online.

Not True! You should only need the aviator pkg if you wont live weather radar. you can get music just like any other xm radio.

That rep is misinformed. I have the same antenna. It is (was) listed on the Garmin Site as an accessory for the 550 which was designed specifically with the motorcyclist in mind. I pay the normal fee for the service.

Try and get a sales rep that's not smoking crack. I have a Zumo 550 with XM and also the weather and traffic, it's 21.95 a month for all.

Thanks guys. I signed up online and avoided all the BS. I just can't believe how messed up the customer service is when signing up for a new account.
I'm curious about NavWeather. Does it show real time radar weather maps overlaid on the GPS? If so, I think that would be a great tool. |
