Default RK Spokes to Mags

I just recently got a new RKC. I am not a big fan of the spokes and would like to convert to mags for front and back. I really like the mags that come with the regular RK. Without going for a machine shop fitting, what are the steps (type of wheel, bearing issues/fitament, brake issues/fitament) that I should consider?

Best

What year bike? If you have say a 09, 10, 11 you can simply take the mags from a same year and swap them. Things to consider are ABS as you would need ABS bearings on one side of each wheel. HD sells wheel installation kits with the proper bearings and spacers and whatnot. If you grab a wheel from a different year then you would need different spacers, bearings, etc.

The bike is a 2011 RKC and it has anti-lock brakes. I believe that you are saying that the mag wheels from a standard 2009-11 RK w/o anti-lock will require a "kit" to fit. But I believe that you are also saying that the mag wheels from a 2008 or older will not fit?

Your bike has ABS, if you get wheels from a non ABS bike then you will need to make sure that you change the bearings to ABS bearings. Older wheels will fit, but you have to change out the spacers because of the way the hubs are machined and compensate for different axle diameters. Your best bet would be to find mag wheels from a recent bike and simply buy the wheel installation kit from HD for ABS wheels.

I swapped my spokes out for 2009 Street Glide wheels.

I have ABS, and other than making sure the ABS bearings were installed properly, it was painless.

Doing the same here. Swapping out spokes and WWW's for a set of Chrome Roulettes and American Elite Blackwalls. All you need to do is make sure you have the ABS bearings, Front and Rear.
