Default 96" crank failures.......anyone??

I hear alot of concern on this forum about people bumbing their HP #'s to a point where you may want to consider strengthening the crank/bottom end.

I am getting closer to adding some more HP to my 10 Ultra, and was wondering how many of us have had their crank fail them, whether is a 85HP stock 96" motor, or a 110HP/115TQ modded 96" motor?

So, have YOU (not your buddy, not a guy in the bar last night had a cousin that had a crank fail......you get the point...lol) had your crank (in your motor, not THAT crank...LOL) fail?

I know alot of guys with 96" motors that make some pretty decent #'s, and none that I know have had any issues..........

What I dont wanna hear is, "well, you rcrank would have been fine if you would have been easier on it". If I'm spending the money to make 105/115, I am gonna ride it HARD at times!!

First post is serious. Click on the link I provided (the highlighted word "THIS"). A guy just posted the other day about a stock 08 ultra with a busted crank. I asked if he had an SE comp or anything else and he said it was bone stock.

I just posted on that thread......that bike had 70K on it.

I guess I'm thinking bikes with a few less miles......

Thanks for the heads up on that thread though......I'll be watching it.

Aren't the same type bearings used as the stock inner cam bearings everyone seems to be afraid of? Of course they are larger but they also have a larger rotating mass and combustion directly effecting them. To me, building big numbers without addressing the crank and it's bearings, is like wiping your *** before you poop. It just don't make sense. I mean let's face it, the bearings in an HD seem to be undeniably the weak link in the whether it's cam bearings, crank bearings or wheel bearings we've all read here about failures and I believe dawg told us a while back that HD had a new bearing supplier and so far it seems the new guys arent getting it done. I wish HD had an option when buying a new bike to upgrade to all timken bearings. I'd pay an extra $500 to know the bike has them every place it has a bearing. I'm sure it wouldn't cost HD anywhere near this to do it but you can bet your ***** they would charge way more than that to go in after the fact and replace them all.

I personally don't know anyone who's had a crank or compensator failure. Lots of HD friends, various builds... This forum can be a bit of a fear monger IMO......
