Pros are ultra cool looking. Done right, they are very stout, and easy to service.

Cons? Mostly the expense.

I just think the open primary from evil engineering just looks wicked......... I don't know about long term reliablity but the angled teeth on the belt makes it look .... evil

look, I think they look great on a pro street/chopper style bike, you dont ride them for hundreds of miles at a time (usually) and it fits the bikes character. But a bagger is different, long miles in many kinds of weather/conditions, moving your legs around for comfort, many times a passanger. seems like a recipe for a shorter trip than planned. As far as the leak thing, mine don't leak, none of my friends leak, and if one does start a few seals max, and its not leaking again. very noisey clutch (really sounds like its falling off!) harder shifting, break down with it and parts aren't going to be available (on the road, type of thing). I assumed you bought a bagger to ride the trip kinda thing, if so, I would really ponder its practibility, if you bought it to be a bar hopper kinda bike, go for it, as one guy said, expensive, and if the rest of the bike doesn't match, it will just look out of place and funny. just my opinion

I too have had the urge to go belt primary, for the function without oil, less mess to service and looks of the unit but also am weighing pros and cons, mainly cons of cost and install time.

A buddy has one on his RK which was on the bike when he purchased it with 10k on the bike. He now has over 100k and the only issue he has had is his chaps and pant leg has gotten caught in the primary belt pulley even though it is partially guarded. I would not have one on my bike because I believe it is a safety issue.

Somebody will post now "they know a guy" who had his leg torn off by a unguarded open belt drive, but serioulsy in all the years they've been available I've never heard of a really serious injury. Yes, occasionally and at first, like I said in my post up-board, you'll get a pant leg caught in the front pulley. But LOL, it's not like your leg will get dragged back into the clutch pulley and just keep going round and round. You just go around the front pulley once and get spit out . . .

I was thinking about doing this a year ago cuz I thought it looked cool. I would think the noise from it and the cost would be enough to think twice.
