Default Removing Battery Cover

Ok I did try the "search" to no avail. I have a FLHTK and I cannot figure out how to remove the cover. I take the 2 bolts out of the backside and remove the electronics boxes on top. I cannot see how to get the front side of the cover unhooked. I do have the service manual and it says "Remove Cover" DAH.

It's a little tricky on the front of that plastic cover. There is a metal tab that the front of the cover hooks over. You need to kind of rotate the rear of the cover upward while slipping the slot in the cover off the tab. Take it slow and focus on how you need to position the cover (correct angle) to slide it off. Took me a few tries as well but once you do it you'll see it's not really that bad.

I slip my finger down by the metal tab - the plastic has a slight catch on the metal tab that my finger helps sneak it by, after you get it off you'll see where the catch is ... for future reference ... hard to see till you get it off

Anyone have a photo they could post? Looked at mine once and couldn't figure out how to remove the cover. Didn't want to force the issue.

Default I have a heck of a time with this issue too

I can see what needs to be done but have been unable to get the cover clear of the tab at the front of the battery.

The first time I got it off, I cut the part off the cover so the problem would be gone. I have no probs getting it off now. I didn't see the fuction or purpose of the thing anyway.

Is a bit tricky. Take a flashlight and look down in front of the battery and once you see what the others have described, all will go a lot better.

If it makes you feel any better, I had a heck of a time getting mine off the first time. After that, its pretty easy, but still not a piece of cake. Just do what the others here have suggested. That cover will take quite a bit of abuse before it actually breaks.

I think maybe your issue is, it's not coming out "unassisted" you have to get rough with it and bend it around. It's not going to just slip out. Crappy design, I know.

Although I like the idea of just cutting the damn thing out.
