Long Ride Shields ultra flip or x-stream
#12
Like several other of the posters here I have both the ultra flip and the x-stream. I am 6'1" but wear a tall coat so I would guess I am closer to 6'2"ish in the seat.
I started out with the stock shield on my 08 SG. I love the look but am not the the kind of rider who thinks he needs to be eating bugs while riding. I live in a rural area with lots of bugs so I got an x-steam to try based on several of the reviews I saw here (don't remember the height). It was a huge improvement over the sock but I still felt like there was to much wind hitting me in the face. My GF also complained about all the wind noise and buffeting when she rode.
I then spoke with LRS and decided to try an ultra flip 10". All I can say is WOW. When I put it on then went for a ride I could not believe how calm it was for me and how well I could now hear the radio at much lower volume levels. I had just planned on a quick trip around the neighborhood since I didn't have any glasses on. I ended up taking about a 40 mile cruise both in town and on the highway at 80mph. I could not believe how calm the air was and how quiet the ride was with the new windshield. The GF loves it to and says that she can now hear the radio on the highway where all she heard was wind noise before.
Everyone wants something different from a windshield but I love my ultra flip. I will buy another once this one is pitted and scratched to the point of annoyance.

I have the 8 inch dark some Freedom Shield, it's pretty good, I just sold the HD 7 inch Windsplitter was ok but not all that, I'm getting a little buffing, looking at the LRS, don't know which one yet, perhaps on with some kind of flip for wind diversion, I also have a 3 pouch windshield bag that I will not get rid off.

I'm 6'2" and I got the 6in Ultra from LRS for my Ultra Classic. I have a Street Glide seat on the bike so I sit a little lower, I'm about to get the seat re shaped (1-2 inches lower and 1-2 inches back). The wind hits the top of my head, but nothing too unbearable. I was trying to get rid of buffeting before bc my glasses bounced around a lot with my 8.5in klock werks, I figured out that if I wear a bandana it keeps my glasses in place and I don't have to have a tall shield. I like the shorter ones.
