Default Totaled my Softail and now looking for a touring bike??

Well my insurance is going to total my FXST after I hit a deer and slid it down the blacktop last Friday.
I am now in the market for a Road King or Electra Glide Standard.

My main question is there any years to stay away from or years that are better than others?
I am looking between 2000 and 2005 models as that is gonna fall into my price range.
Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry about your spill, glad you are OK.

Prices being what they are- and the market- see if you can maybe get into a newer model.

i stayed on my '95 until a few months ago when I got a great deal on an 09.

I waited for the efi/ ecm programming to come together along with the 96", 6 speed and the new frame...the abs & Brembos, and cruise and security.

I really feel like it took H-D that long to get it together.
And the 09 is a GREAT bike. far more stable, safe braking and a comfy ride

the touring bike models are all much the same, just different fiberglass hanging on them

07 is the first year with the 96ci engine.

09 has the good frame, bigger tires etc.

Some of the 06s had Cats in the exhaust I read here recently. (not sure of that is true or not)

I love my 07, but added the IDS (rubberized rear sprocket) for a smoother ride, something you get built in on 08s and up.

My bike is a 2002 which came with the Delphi FI ..over time I've heard several people state that the Delphi is a great system...so far I've not been disappointed in my purchase.

If you're going with that year model group...
Try to get a '06 model instead.
The '06 heads flowed better than the previous years.

Hey man, if the price is right and you are happy, then it's the right model/year!
