Winter upgrades to the Glide are complete!
Well I finished my mods which centered on audio and lighting. First up is I got the inner fairing painted to match the bike at a local paint shop. I am happy with it. The only peeve is the size of the flake is finer than OE HD paint which makes the red look deeper under certain lighting conditions but otherwise it looks great.
The next upgrade was the headlights. I installed the H-D Xenon/Halogen headlight assembly. I got it off of eBay for $260 shipped from Black hills HD. I also upgraded the passing lamps to a set I got from Walters.
They still have a goldish tint but matches the color of the high beams. I would have liked them whiter but it is better than stock. I also cleaned out the insides of the housings to get rid of the fogging. I stuffed in one of those smooth eyeglass cleaning cloths and moved it around with a wooden chopstick.
Next up I installed a full Alpine audio system consisting of an Alpine CDA-9855 head unit an an Alpine KCA-420i iPod adapter and Alpine SPS-13C2 2-way 5.25" speakers.
I installed this with a Biketronics retro audio installation kit.
The iPod cable was long enough to run all the way back to the saddlebag where I made a foam rubber case to dampen vibes. on a 50 mile ride I experienced no lock ups or resets.
For right now I find no need to cut or drill a hole for the cable as it fits over the lip of the bag and the cover closes fine without any pinching of the cable.
For the antenna I tried an in fairing but was not happy with the reception so I went with an OEM H-D shorty whip mounted on HD's new antenna relocation kit.
I like this mount as it places the antenna out of the way and not in your face when working at the back of the bike.
