What makes the clutch pull fell harder? Is it just the spring since your saying the clutch p/n's are the same, anyone know.

[Pretty much covers it. I might add that the clutch pull is quite a bit harder compared to the regular bikes. But clutch p/n's are the same, so it appears to be merely missing the "easy clutch" piece that we're now used to feeling on the newer rides. Reminds me of my '04 RKS. My girl can ride my Roadie, but not my EG-P. It's too "manly"! Yeah, ok, ha,ha,ha!]

I would say my clutch pull on my 08 is just the same as the newer bikes. I will have to pay attention next time I am on one but from what I remember I never really noticed any difference. As stated above the spring is the same part #.

i'm guessing that the million mile claim is dumb. how many years do you think it'd take to rack up a million miles? i suppose if you started riding that cop bike when you're 25 years old, you'd be trading it in for a hoveround and be 70 years old before it reached a million. don't believe your friend from the motorcycle club.

Even my new '74 74" shovel had bead retention rims.

On PD bikes when I was walking the line at York last fall they were putting together a group of 5 PD bikes. I did notice that on the clutch area the bin had a special note that said something like PD Heavy Duty Clutch... The crew only used that bin when the 5 bikes went by and then moved that parts bin out and pulled in another and put a different clutch in the rest of them.

The OP's friend seems like so many I meet... full of facts and information that originated in his own imagination. Reading the HD police motorcycle brochure was fun, though. Thanks for the link.

The factory 103's do have a different clutch pack assembly part number then the 96 do in my 2011 part book. I will go against the grain here and say that the T/c engine can go 1000000 miles. Remember it is rebuildable. You may have to replace some parts along the way but still could have the orginal motor. I had 80,000 miles on my 04 and never did a thing to it other then change oil once and while and it ran like new.

All of the clutch components are the same EXCEPT for the Clutch Spring. The 96" is a 117 KgF spring and the police 103" has a 165 KgF spring since 2007. There is a misprint in the 2007 Police Parts Supplement that lists the 117 KgF spring but again that was an error and dealers were supposedly informed. The 2008 and later police parts book corrected the error and they list the correct part #.

If you have a police bike, please get the Police Service Supplement Manual and the Police Parts supplement manual for your particular year model. These provide specific information about police bikes where slight differences might occur between them and their touring counterparts, such as the clutch spring.

True or false. You be the judge.
The civilian 103 and the police edition are the same motor ?? The cop bikes have lower gearing in the trans and higher amp output?? The spring in the clutch on the 103 is heavier than the spring on the 96 version, but i dont know whether it is even heavier on the cop 103 than on the civilian 103 due to the lower gearing in the cop trans??

Any motor will go a million miles...you will just have to go through a lot of parts exchanging along the way...HA Ha. after you change enough parts is it still the original motor?

I am sure everyone here has made statements or claims they really were not certain to be positvely accurate...yet they made them anyway because it seemed like good conversation at the time. Your buddy meant well. I guess.
