Oil pressure, evo or TC.....

According to my handy dandy service manual for MY '08 FLHX with a 96ci motor, "Oil pressure should be 30-38 PSI (207-262 kPa) at 2000 RPM and normal operating temperature". And amazingly, that's what mine reads. When cold she never drops below 30 PSI regardless of RPM. When she's hot she drops to about 26 - 28 at idle. But following the manual @ 2000 RPM she is always over 30 PSI.

My interest is my friend has an 04 RK that has a HD gauge and at hot idle you might
see a slight movement off "0". lets call it a weak pulse. I think its the quality of the
gauge, or lack of. That's with Amsoil 20W50.
Also my old 97 Evo ate an inner cam bearing, and a couple thousand miles late the
front cylinder stared smoking (tru-duels) Then I found that the oil pump had been
compromised somewhere along the way. Most likely when the POS cam bearing gave up at 32 K miles.
So I am thinking if the pressure is somewhere tween 0 and 5 lbs. at idle, you dont
have much room for error. Or when does the engine start to eat itself.
And maybe a GOOD oil pressure gauge would be money well spent......Tenn.Vol.

Evos pump plenty of oil around the engine, even at idle, so the engine shouldn't starve, except in unusual circumstances. It just doesn't use a lot of pressure, which doesn't mean anything is wrong or the design/pump is not man enough for the job. Worst thing for our motors was the invention of the oil pressure gauge!
