Default 03 Road Glide Speedo Issue (Help)

While out on a ride (2003 FLTRI Road Glide) my speedometer started to bounce high and low then went to about half speed. While doing 50 to 60 mph reading 30 and 40. The odometer was off as well after this. I stopped and shut off the bike and then restarted and it was fine for a while then did it again. I stopped and started 3 times, it did the same thing each time. While in freak mode and not reading correctly if I hit the brakes the speedo goes straight to zero regardless of speed or gear I’m in. Is the speedometer fully electronic or is there a cable into the transmission? Has anyone seen this before or have a clue what to do next. I need some help if anyone out there can. Thank you.

Possibly a ground issue but nothing else has gone out. Therefore would suspect the speed sensor. Based ont the forum it is a part that goes from time to time.

No I haven't noticed anything else acting up. Do you know where the s. sensor is located and is it replaceable without going to the shop?

It's on the transmission. It's held on by one screw. You can take it out and clean it and it might get you by for a little while. The last one I replaced was about $50.00, if I remember correctly.

Thanks. Would it be the 2 wire plug on the chrome rectangular cover on top of tranny?

Don't confuse it with the neutral switch. I wouldn't bother cleaning it on an 03 dependent upon mileage. I would simply replace it.

The two wire hex head switch in the center of the cover is the neutral switch. The speed sensor has one socket head screw holding it on. It is right under the vent hose.that runs from the crankcase to the oil filler.

Thanks for all the info. Is there any sort of tests that can be done to determine if it's the V reg or s sensor? I appreciate all the help, getting closer to the fix!!!
