Hot day. Bike ran like crap. Kinda freaked out.

Poker run on a 110 degree day. The bike had about half the power she normally has and was slow to start. Did I do any damage? 2006 flhtpi with an oil cooler. 2600 miles since oil change. I run syn3. I also have a high pitch faint rattle at above 4000 rpm's that I can't locate. I'm just wanting to see if this has happened to anyone else and hoping she didn't get too hot. I didn't find much on searching.

I went through one terrible day in freeway traffic jam super hot not 110,but close. I didn't have the oil cooler, and I noticed my oil pressure dipped really low, even after getting cool air from driving. I went right home, and drained it out. After running it with fresh new oil,the pressure picked right back up.

Thanks. I was thinking my oil broke down. I'm going to change it before I ride again.

regarding the power, it's possible that the ECM was retarding timing to deal with the hot conditions.

also look at fuel quality/octane. if using low octane fuel, it is more likely to ping, which would cause timing to retard as well.

fuel mixture correct?

There's a spark temperature correction table in the ECM. As ambient and head temperature rise, ignition timing is retarded to prevent detonation. Your bike was doing what it was supposed to do to protect itself.

You're fine.

That makes sense. Thanks guys!

Put some real oil in that bike next time. Mobil 1 or Amsoil. That SYN3 is not the best thing for your bike.

I tried mobile 1 last year and the bike ran about 20 degrees hotter. I've had good luck with the harley oil. This doesn't need to be another oil thread.
