Default Damn Deer

Cruising home from work last night, windey country road, sun in my eyes and before I can register what’s up a deer materialises in front of me. Missed him by 5 ft. max. I have a pair of those deer whistles but the only flat place on the front of my Road King that has unobstructed air flow is the sides of the front fender. Anyone have a better idea ?

I’ll be honest, I have serious reservations as to the validity of those whistles. I live in southeast Ky, deer EVERYWHERE. I’ve hunted all my life. A deer can hear a twig snap under foot and explode into action, I just wonder if the whistle makes any difference. Ya know it hears the bike coming, think about how far away you can hear one, then imagine how much further off a deer probably can.
I look at it like this, it hears you a long way off, it sees you a long way off if the view is unobstructed, it just probably don’t get the concept that the object 100 yards away that it sees and hears and considers a safe distance will be parking on top of it in less than 3 seconds, no matter what sound it’s making. Those critters are just plain unpredictable. Be safe.

Yeah. What JRoD03 said. I hit one April 27 this year. I am not running them. Those whistles are just snake oil medicine. Deer pay them no mind. BTW. Nice bike.

How loud are your pipes? I've found the absolute most effective way to spook them is a sharp noise, IE- pull clutch and quick rev. I know that does nothing for the ones that seem to teleport right in front of you...

The whistles do nothing IMO. They seemed super popular even when I was a kid (ok, that was only ~25 years ago) but are really falling off. Plus I think you'll go nuts listening to them all the time.

Some stuff I’ve read suggests they make the problem worse. Not sure about that, but it does seem pretty conclusive that those whistles don’t help.

3006, or 3030 at least ought to do the trick.

I live in Pa,deer everywhere,my suggestion is too slow down and watch the burms early morning and from 4pm on in the evening. During the day they are bedded down for the most part.
Many accidents here due to deer n seems nearly everybody I know has hit one, last yr my aunt hit one n still is messed up. B careful n ride slow.

The tire roar from my 2014 RK seems to get their attention. Seriously. I have noticed they hear me coming and pick their heads when they are grazing in the fields on my way home. If I get new tires I may need to get a deer alert.

I’m just thankful I don’t live in moose country like some of you do. I’ll stick with the whitetail.

Left the house yesterday around 8am and had 4 deer try to take me out, and that was while I was still in the subdivision! The critters are everywhere in my neck of the woods.
