Clutch adjustment advice
 

I removed the derby cover on my 2009 FLHP while changing the primary fluid. While it was off, I attempted to adjust the clutch, per the instructions in the service manual. No matter what I tried, I could not get the jam nut on the clutch adjuster screw to loosen. I am talking about in the primary, not the cable.

Anyone else had this issue? What did you have to do to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

Put it in gear and step on the R. brake to lock it up, easier with 2 people. Get a deep socket and breaker bar. It's a regular RH thread

Impact wrench, I don't know of an easier way.

yeah get a good grip so you won't round the nut and give it a controlled turn with a socket. How you set for the adjustment need any input on that?

That is what I did last week (put it in gear and it easily came loose), didn't really think it was really needing done at 9k but it does seem to work cleaner since. Glad I did it now.

If you have a offset box wrench which you absolutely need and a fold out set off allen wrenches or a socket set of allen wrenches it is not too bad but if it is put her in gear rotate until you get against the gear then grab both wrenches and give it a shot just make sure your lefty loosey righty tighty on this one.

Hope you got it figure out but if not take it somewhere. This nut is only 72-120 inch pounds tight. You put an allen wrench in the shaft to hold it. If you are actually turning correct nut someone must have put loctite on it. The nut you are breaking loose is the one under the snap ring. You can see the allen hole in the screw were you hold it.

Use deep socket and hit the handel of the ratchet with a quick blow. I welded a 10: long 1/2" bar to a old deep socket so I can tighten while the allen tee wrench goes thru the middle.

Thanks for the tips. Bike only has 8,000 miles and shifts fine, but I figured I'd adjust it while the cover was off. I will give it another shot the next rainy weekend.

When you start adjusting your clutch every 5000 miles, you'll appreciate the diffference everytime. And anything over a "slap" on a socket wrench to tighten that lock nut is overkill.
