can I run 100 miles B4 new tune after cam change?
General question about cam changes vs tuning needs-- and the need to travel 100 miles for a dyno tune:
On my 09 UC I had the HD stage 1 A/C, SE slip on touring mufflers, and a SEPST tuner (black with red button model) installed on the bike from new.
The dealer downloaded a standard Stage 1 upgrade map inot the ECM, then did 2-3 smart tune runs on the road to dial it in a bit--no dyno runs.
My Q is this-- if I install a set of S&S 551 cams (not too radical--similar to the SE 255's and Andrews 21H and 26H cams) would it be possible to ride it about 100 miles (gently) to a shop for a dyno tune without cooking the valves/pistons? Has anyone done somthing similar then rode to the tuners?
The heads are OEM stock configuration at this time.
S&S 551 cam specs:
Intake: open-17 / close-19
Exhaust: open-41 / close-17
Duration: Intake-216 / Exhaust-238
Lift: .550
As always, thanks for any assistance with this one.

Dan-- I understand your point but after running for a couple of years on a canned map and smart tune (which was just OK) I'm looking for a bit more now that I'm about to add cams.
I don't have the knowledge (nor really want to start learning) on how to run the SEPST tuning program, nor do I have the cable, CD, instruction CD, etc on how to do it anyway.
I really enjoy wrenching on my rides but just don't care to go into the tuning arena.
Straycat - Good to know you have done it. I figured the tuner could take up any "slack" by adding mild cams, but would have hated to have caused any damage. More confident about running it now.
Still kicking around the RevPerformance auto tuner idea and forgetting the dyno-- but a bit less expensive to go the SEPST route as:
(1) I have already invested in the SEPST and it was big $$$ here in Oz in 2009; and
(2) There is a competent dyno tuner who understands the SEPST tuning process for reasonable $$ about 100 miles away from where I live.
Thank you both for your prompt replies-- hope I can help you someday.
PS-- I see I've reached an small milestone --- post #1,000.
