Arlen Ness 'BIG SUCKER' ... oiled or dry?
 

am I suppose to be spraying oil on my newly installed Arlen Ness 'BIG SUCKER' a/c filter ?

running it dry so far...no issues

pretty sure those get oil'd (k&n knock offs), it will run no problem, the oil just helps catch the particles better.

I have the same air cleaner there is a oil spray that is sold at the dealer that works well

the oil is a crucial part of the filtering- I oil new filters before first use- the ness is available in red or grey- the red color does not mean that it is oiled

you can find K&N filter oil AND cleaner at any auto parts store. ( there are other brands like PJ1, but the K&N is everywhere)

wash first- spray the cleaner on inside and outside surfaces, let it sit

then using a garden hose, spray from the inside of the filter to the outside- washing away the junk collected- washing from the outside may just force the particles in.

let air dry- like overnight

once dry, spray and even thin coat on the filter media, inside and outside.

wipe off any excess.

let filter sit on a piece of cardboard etc for an hour or so.

wipe any excess off, reinstall

if over-oiled, the motor may run a little rich for a short period. no problem

I agree! Oil works well. Once a year I take my filter out and clean it in the slop sink. They have a "recharge" kit with a spray cleaner and oil. I use the cleaner, wash/rinse, repeat and then oil it down. Seems to work out good for me.

If this is a new filter, it should be pre-oiled and the pleats should be red. It must be oiled to work effectively.

It should have been already oiled when you bought it.If it's red it's oiled.

it comes oiled, then every season it would be good to clean it and re-oil it. or depending on how much you ride maybe less. mine is out in the open so the sun hitting it dries it out more than if it was closed.

K&N kit will do fine on the Arlen Bess big sucker too... correct?,
will recharge at the begining of next riding season/spring.

Absolutely...that is what I use with no issue.
