Stock speakers are just ok. The HD Stage 1 speakers are a straight bolt-on with no additional amp needed. Is it worth the $200 they charge for the speakers?
While in Sturgis last year, I stopped by the the Rockford Fosgate booth, and they had totes full of them that they had removed. I had them put mine in there too.
So there's a RF direct swap too? I've been looking at hogtunes too. I just don't want to go crazy with a $1000 stereo upgrade. The base OEM speakers just need a little more richness.
A straight speaker replacement with no amp to go with it will net you nothing. The stock Harley system runs on a 2ohm platform. A quality replacement speaker will more than likely be a 4 ohm option and require way more output than a stock head unit will provide.
I just picked up some Boom 1 speakers w/grills on eBay for $100...not much of an upgrade but love the grills...I would look at Hogtunes or Kappas for a direct drop in if you’re not gonna get an amp
I went with the hog tunes on my 06. -2 stock sized speakers and the amp, brand new on ebay. [about $200 spent]I'm satisfied with the sound and I can hear the stereo just fine at 75 mph.
I went with Rockford fosgate. Had a system in my ‘92 F250 with a amp, then in my ‘07 F250. So naturally added it to my ‘14 ultra. Did all 4 speakers. I did the front 1st but noticed how bad the trunk speakers sounded, I changed those too. They are a good company with great service. Had the bike at home and in the garage, my 14 y/o daughter came out and yelled at me because she couldn’t hear her music in the house! lol.
