Cutting the end off a hex key and using that to tighten those bolts will not work on my 2003 Ultra!

I am wondering how this should work, maybee on other Modells/Year.

Is there any reason Harley uses bolts with an allen head instead bolts with a hexagonal head?

Almost done with those bolts. I hope no more leaks.

But if it keeps leaking, I probably will need a new gasket for the BEARING HOUSING ASM.

Anybody replaced that gasket? Difficult to do?

Also, I can't find the part with the red arrow in the parts list.

What is it called?

Reviving a an old thread. Seems like something that others might benefit from.

Mine is leaking too. I've checked the bolts and knew them to be an issue but she still leaks. Bolts seemed tight although I was not aware of the tech bulletin till just now in this thread.

I was frustrated enough I was gonna use RTV. Actually came on here hoping to figure out which RTV people thought were best.
Black is maximum oil resistance but doesn't mention heat. Harley's do get hot.
Gold is for heat and does also seem prescribed for things that touch fluids.
Ultra Synthetic seems to be for synthetic fluids specifically, which I do run.
So wasn't sure and thought I'd see what others thought.

Nobody in this thread is mentioning RTV though.
And Harley specifically says not to.

So maybe I'll just Blue Loctite them and keep an eye again?

I really wanna RTV it though and just ensure I'm done with this leak...

Follow up.....

All this time I've been keeping my bottom 2 bolts tightened and couldn't figure out why I was leaking. Hence why I was planning to use a sealant.

Well, I was degreasing and cleaning up extra good preparing to do the job and and ,embarrassed to admit, those 2 bolts were GONE COMPLETELY! No wonder my bottom 2 bolts were tight and still leaking, the 2 bolts that should have been below them weren't even there and grease was covering the holes so I didn't know they were even there.

Just in case anyone is as much of a dumbass as me, there are 2 bottom bolts in the chrome cover and then there are 2 bottom bolts below them in the larger black cover that the chrome cover bolts on to.

So yeah, I bought the bottom 2 bolts (they were in stock) and no more leak.

I think they are totally tight and I Locktited them, but will still keep an eye on them of course.
