That plug is not on all of the touring bikes. I have a 2012 Roadie custom and the plug isnt on my tank. Also, the tank dash does not have to come off on my bike. Maybe on others, but not on a 2012 Roadie Custom. Just a little FYI...

Took it off last night, 2 times as I forgot to zip tie some wire by the throttle body, and I didn't have that 2nd plug. Thanks for the pictures. It really helped. The process took me a while but is really simple.

So, I did this to my bike over the weekend. Twice (don't ask). The one big difference was that I didn't have a connector underneath the tank to disconnect - other than the fuel line.
One thing I did notice was that the front bolts on the side of the gas tank had some corrosion. What's the best thing to put on them to prevent this?

careful with the vent tube!!
Thanks a ton for this extremely helpful guide. It made the job of running usb cables on my '12 Road King easy. One problem I had was that I didn't pay enough attention to where the tank vent tube goes. When I eventually figured it out, it was a real bear to try and get back in place. I might recommend disconnecting the elbow connector located right before the tube goes down into the frame, essentially leaving the lower part of the tube in place when the tank comes off. It would have been a lot easier than trying to reach in with my sausage fingers to guide it back down the frame inside the zip ties (especially the lower one).
If anyone has an easier way, I'd like to hear it. thanks.
