Default Can you stick with the stock push rods after cam installation ?

After reading as much as I could I have decided to go with the Andrews 48H cam. I have a 2007 FLHT stage 1 with 20,000 miles on it. This is a winter project so I have some time on my hands. I was thinking about pulling the tank, covers and rockers and reusing the stock push rods. Has anyone used stock push rods with an after market cam ? If I am barking up the wrong tree here, what is a good set of adjustables that won,t break the bank ? As always I appreciate all your opinions, thank you...

I would recommend changing the p rods with a cam swap. This way everything seats back together. you might also look at new roller tappets while your in there. cheaper now than later. A set of adjustable rods will run you $165.00 and roller tappets around $120.00

I can't preach on the tappets my bike only had 8K miles on it when i did the swap with the Andrews 48H. But i reused the stock PR's on my bike, just didn't like the idea of a jam nut and loctite holding things together inside my motor. Runs fine since I've done the install.

yeah it should hold together ok. He has 2 k on the bike now an if I was in there anyway doing a cam swap , I'd try to do all the parts that touch it, just so it all breaks in together.

Absolutely ... the stock pushrods will cause no problems what so ever. Just be sure to inspect the ends for any "gauling" ( pitting ) and be sure to check them for straightness and you're good to go.

I re-used my stock pushrods when I installed some SE255s in my bike last year. The 48s are quite similar as far as lift so you should be fine. I did not remove my tank, I just lifted it and braced up the back with a 2x4 for the cam install. I have not had any issues from re-using the stock pushrods. Good luck on your cam upgrade.

Thanks for all the input. I wasn't thinking about the parts all breaking in together but it makes good sense especially with 20,000 miles on the bike. I will inspect and decide when I get it apart. I feel better now about making decisions. I won't be doing much until "Santa" brings me a cam for Christmas ...
