Default Removal of the saddle bag rail kit

What have you guys done when you removed your rail kit? I just bought a bike with them on and want them off. Any other options besides buying new lid or filling the holes and repainting. I'v seen the leather covers and that would work but I dont think it would look that good with all the other chrome and on my silver bike. Just looking for other ideas. Thanks guys

I removed mine and plugged the holes with some plastic inserts I found at ACE hardware. They cost near nothing at all. Also, I used "Super Glue" to hold them in place. Sometimes when washing the bike the plugs would come out when I ran my washing rag over them. Since using the glue, no problems. My bags are black and so are the plugs. Don't know what one would do if they have light colored bags. The long and short of it is; you must plug them or buy some sort of replacement items as suggested by AKPrice above.

Well got the plugs in. They were an unbeleivable $40 but i have to be honest they look really good and are c n c'd out of stainless. They have little orings to go in between them and the paint to protect it form scratches. But i couldnt get them to fit on wasnt enough threads. Wish they were a little longer with more threads. Over all its a good chunk of change for such a small piece but i dont regret them. To me they look a lot better than the rails.

I had the leather wraps befor replacing the rear fender with a SG fender.
The wraps looked ok cause I had leather bag guards on them. I believe my sig pic still shows them.

I have Ride-Tec's lid protectors on my 09 FLHX bags & these + a few $0.05 rubber plugs @ Ace HW would've done the trick & prevented passenger scratches from foot-drag. Those SS plugs look nice, but you're correct w/the $pendy part.

I found a buddy who didn't have them that wanted them. We swapped the rear crash bar and rail kit. He's happy with a set of rails, and I'm happy with a rear crash bar thats clean with no holes!

That looks good for $30. The aluminum should look fine on a silver bike.
