Default 2000 Ultra classic Shuts off while riding!!!!

My 2000 ultra classic will shut off while riding but it is temporary, it catches back up after a second or two and keeps going, any ideas?

the tip over switch bracket on those was prone to cracking.

test by starting bike in drive way and tipping it from side to side.

( it's like the "tilt" in a pinball machine)

the ignition switch contacts on those were also prone to burn up, esp. if extra lighting was used up front, the switch contacts couldn't take the extra current draw---some were subject to recall which you could check with the VIN- my '95 had the switch replaced under recall 10 years later...

also check that the + battery cable is not grounding out on bumps, happened on one of mine, just a little rub through the insulation...fixed it with a piece of split fuel line hose over the cable until I got home

Might check the system relay... Small, snap out, snap in.... $11 if that's it. Check for codes if you haven't already.

Since ya didn't mention how it stops;

1. Sputtering = fuel

2. Instant (without warning) = electrical

It's an instant shut off just like you hit the kill switch and then turned it back on. The check engine light comes on for a few seconds and the goes out.

That is a classic system relay problem. $11 fix.

Hey rhlhamlet, are you talking about the ECU rely or which one is it? Also found out last night that my bike has a POWER COMMANDER 2 hidden behind the left side frame cover that I didnt know was there, could this be the problem? Thanks for your input!!
