I am removing my heel shifter to replace the worn splined toe shifter--and I am going to position the shifter at the outside of the splined shaft, leaving too much naked splined shaft uncovered. I have the short rubber hose-type piece that was original and could just look at the store for something about the same but longer, but I wondered if any better thinkers out there have another idea of what would work and look nicer than just a longer piece of black rubber hose.
A couple of local hardware store near me carry chrome spacers / nuts / bolts / washers...do a little hunting and you may be surprised at what you find..JMO
Agreed, too much money. Simply cut the splined shaft down to fit. Much better lever placement and the splined shaft only costs $12 if you want to re-use the heel shifter.
Search J&P for shft anti-rattle --- will find spacer that looks like this -- I have one on my street glide and it is good looking and reasonable around $20--- paul

disagree on the better placement comment. i took the heel shifter off my bike, and bought a machined spacer from someone here on the forum (was a long time ago, don't remember who) which moved the lever to the outside position. this is, i feel, the better placement. it moves the shifter peg out away from the frame some. would be about the same effect as having a one inch longer shift pad.
Home Depot has a good selection of stuff that would work. Previous owner of my bike just put a longer piece of black "radiator" hose in place of the normal spacer. Looked fine and probably cost less than $1.
