01 Ultra Classic, I want to be able to turn lights off.

I have a 01 ultra classic and I want to be able to turn the lights off when starting the bike. Or when doing other things.

On my 89 FXRS it was only a jumper wire on the ignition switch.

I was thinking that I would turn my lights on with the Ultra Classic at the Aux switch if I could figure out where to cut and splice?

see if any of this helps:

On my evo bagger, i had a relay cutting out the power to the lights when the starter was operated.

I did not see my light cut out. Although it is a new bike to me.

I want to be able to turn on my light when I want to.

What wire on my bike do I cut and place a switch on. I cannot believe that I am the first to think about this.

You cut your live wire & run it to a relay & power the relay from your fuse box. You also run an on/off switch into it.
Hatch.

The circuit is powered in the fuse box, look for the Headlamp Fuse, it is powered when the ignition is powered up, you should be able to splice it to a switch from there and still retain the fuse in the circuit.

Thank you, I did do that on my Evo. Simple matter of just cutting a jumper wire. But my 01 Bagger ignition switch does not have a lights on switch position. (That I could feel.) So I guess I will need to wire the light to a Aux switch.

If I could only figure out where to cut and wire a switch for lights.

Screw the Federal Law that makes Mfg. tell us to keep your lights on. If my voltage regulator dies and I need to make it home I want a fair chance to make it home. So far has happened to me three times on my Evo. Federal goverment should of also made kick starters mandatory.

So the head Lamp fuse powers all lights?

Any idea what wire to cut and splice in my cowl to run to a switch?

I have read the wiring scematics and cannot figure this out.

I wouldn't advise cutting it in the fairing, use the existing wires in the fuse panel, you want that on a fused circuit with a relay for fail-safe reasons, not doing so could result in catastrophic electrical damage.

Ther must be a wire coming from the fuse to the lights. I would like to tap that wire in order to switch it.

Anyone that knows and can help.

A plug and play way is a kit from Easternbeaver, their H4 Dual Headlight Relay Kit with FULL On/Off Switching. I have used these in several Harleys, since I usually upgrade the bulbs and don't want to pull the extra amps through the plastic bulb sockets or the high beam switch. I have one on my RG now, so I can cut the headlights off. I put the switch in one of the gloveboxes.
