suggestions on easiest way to replace spark plug wires?
 

Just asking for suggestions. My new SE spark plug wires came in and I went last night to install and couldnt believe it. The wires are all tucked to the underside of the tank with the metal clips. I was thinking I would not get gas on the way home, run her close to empty and then remove the fuel crossover tubing. Then undo the tank and rotate her as high as I could get her up and undo the stock wires. I plan on reusing my 2"/3" lift kit from my old bike on the RK. Thanks everyone. Any easier suggestions would be appreciated.

Do yourself a huge favor and install a fuel line disconnect fitting in your crossover. You can get them off ebay, among other sources. Put one of these in, and pulling your gas tank becomes a 5 minute affair, and you won't have to mess around with lifting and blocking up your gas tank to work underneath it.

I'm sure some things have changed but, on my old '89 I taped a thin insulated wire to the old spark plug wire and pulled it out, taped the new spark plug wire to the wire left where the old one was and pulled the new one thru. Worked for me without having to take anything off. had to be carefull and nudge it along a little as there are a few tight spots. I try to live by the rule "If you have a difficult job to do find a lazy man and he will find an easy way to do it." Good Luck

when I replaced mine on my 04 egc I just loosened the tank and lifted the rear of the tank up and it gave me enough room.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I didn't have to raise/remove my tank on my 07 as the wires run underneath the frame (under the gas tank). I had to replace the clips as the SE wires are much wider than stock. I see yours is a 2000, so I guess they do actually run under the tank??? That would be irritating as hell, but I'd do what was stated and get a quick disconnect fuel crossover for easier tank removal.

I'm tempted to buy the quick disconnect but other than lifting my tank to install the lift kit, I don't ever plan on removing it. I like the idea of lifting the rear of the tank up to reach the wires. On mine, I laid down on the ground and shined my light under the tank to see the wires literally ran thru metal clips that are attached to the bottom side of the tank. This will be my next project on my next payday.

Mine went on in like 5 minutes on my 2010, used the stock clips, they hold them. I hope it's that easy on your 2000.

i also used stock clips on my 04 they were a little tight but lifting the tank up gets it ouf of your way enough to have the extra room you need without pulling the tank off all the way. pull the torx bolt at the rear of the tank and loosen or remove the two up front and you can lift the whole tank or just the rear.

OUCH!

I took the bolts off the gas tank and lifted the tank up about 3 inches I was able a change my spark plug wires then and I was also able to install my 2 inch lift kit on the front of tank
