had a mate today have his drive belt break - all sorted now but...
i have seen the HD emergency belt repair kit but it says only to 06.

1. what is the difference in belts to the newer models from 06 ?
2. can you get a 2012 model repair kit from anyone ?

dont intend to use it ! - but, our club thought it might be a good buy to have one between us for long rides.

06 was the last year of the 1 1/2" belt. HD went to a 1" belt in 07.

I don't know about a Harley, but in a car a pair of nylons will get you into town, or would on the older cars.

 

LMAO!!!!! That might be a tough explain to the O'lady why i have a set of nylons in my bags!!!

 

I think you'll find the post-06 belt is 1 1/8". They are much tougher than the old wide belts. Harley made a heavy duty 1 1/2" belt for sidecar use, but I understand the current factory trikes use the stock narrow belt.

 

I don't think the Harley belts were made to be "repaired", just replaced. I heard of a guy using a piece of surgical tubing as an emergency belt.

 

Harley does make a belt after 06, am considering one as backup for my 08 & saw they did have it, just seemed a bit pricey.

 

so did you say they make an emergency belt kit for 2006 onwards ?
does anyone else make them in the USA ?

How long (how many miles) is the emergency belt supposed to last? I've got roadside assistance that will get me towed to a dealer but I'd hate to have to pay one to change my belt out if I was out on the road, far from the house. If I could limp home on the emergency belt from far enough away it might be worthwhile.

I've got 71K on my belt so it is something I've thought about carrying. Kinda pricey though....
