FLTR steering bearing help needed???
 

I'm aware of all the chat about front-end wobble and the need to adjust the steering bearing according to HD Bulletin M-1246. So I go to do this on my '09 FLTR. I made the "tool" described in the bulletin, removed the fork stem nut and don't see the "adjuster nut". I don't have a clue what to adjust. All I see it the threaded shaft sticking out and the top surface of the upper fork bracket. The picture in the bulletin suggests that the nut is BENEATH the upper fork bracket. Does this bracket need to be removed too?...even though the instructions make no mention of that??? Any help would be appreciated.

Look just beneath the top of the triple tree. It is in there. Make sure that you bend back the locking tab on the nut, and loosen it up. May as well grease up the steering head bearings, and while you're in there check your handlebar riser bushings for wear.

How the hell do you see in there with the fairing in place? I've got my outer off for some unrelated work, but even with that it seems almost impossible to even look in there! Any recommended angles. Geez, it's funny they don't mention a tab either.

I've got a batwing, but observed the notched adjuster nut and made adjustments from the side of the neck, it is a little difficult to see, and you have to "use the force Luke" to make the adjustment.

pictures would help. I was thinking of trying the same thing, looked inside the speedo/tack housing and saw the 1 1/2" nut in there with the locking tabs. Didn't think to look under the triple tree for an adjuster though....
