how much down between oil changes?

Just curious, how much oil are you down between changes? just bought an 01 bagger with 10k mi. on it. carbed with pipes and air cleaner. Put amsoil in it and have since put 3000 mi on it with at least 1200 of it running 80mph. Did a couple of L.A. to vegas runs 300mi each way with three long, steep, hard pull grades She easily held a solid 80mph coming and going. Pretty frikki'n invigorating ride! By the way,you can run 80 on Interstate 15 with no problems from C.H.P the're busy busti'n guys doing 90-100. just checked my oil and was about 1/4 quart down. I'm thinki'n that's pretty good for runni'n it so hard. What have you guys been experiencing?

None of my 3 TC96's are ever down any detectable amount. Even the first 1K. The 103 is the same. Can not detect any loss.

The two 1200's were down 1 full qt at 1K, 1/2 qt at 2K and none after that. Seems to be typical for the Sportster motor.

I have done the 5, 10, 15 and the 20K last fall on my 10 Ultra that has been over much of North America and like I said it has never used any detectable amount. Through Death Valley in the afternoon up through the Rockies in the US and Canada.

I credit it to doing 12 heat cycles on the engine when new before riding and then following the factory break in procedure.

I've heard that some guys get blow by through the jug breather and see a little oil in the throttle bode on the efi bikes, while other guys like the above poster say they never loose a drop. The guys that are losing the amount you described leave them about a 1/4 low and no more blow by. I don't have this problem myself. Every engine is a little different.

Doesn't seem too bad but I never have to add to my 07 even after 64K miles and I ride it like I stole it.

My '06 used a quart after 4k but the '09 does not use any noticeable amount between Changes.

Mine doesn't use any, but I change the engine and the primary oils every 3000 miles.

Good question

When I did the second oil change at 6k, I had only added about 5 oz since the 1k service.
My 98 Fatboy OTOH would use about 1/2 qt in 1k. So the 96' seems very oil tight by comparison. :icon_eddie:

Thats about right....

My 01 used a quart every 2500 miles from the day i bought it in 07 with 4900 miles on it. Decided to rebuild it at 43000 in Febuary and so far hasn't come off the full mark, but only have 1000 on this last change. Mine was a California model, but don't know if that made any differance or if P/O just didn't break it in right.
