[QUOTE=adam1948;14088052]hardheaded,
OK, so the drilling part is easy, does all of it break apart or some of the CAT stay inside? We were told to simply drill holes thru it? thanx, Adam T[/QUOTE 1x16 unch paddle bit $10 at lowe's.i took the pipe off and removed 02's and then put pipe in vise. i then hooked up shopvac to the head port end of pipe so as not to breath and of this stuff (heavy metals). go slow and hang on to your drill and just keep at it. after i removed all i could with the drill i used a angle pry bar and a hammer to knock the rest out. clean as a whisle. make sure youget the 02 sensors back in the correct spots. hardest thing to deal with was the crossover pipe.

Think about this. What was the AFR upstream of the cat from the factory? I'm guessing it wasn't 14.6:1. With the stock tune and cat in place 14.6:1 is measured downstream from the cat. Now with the cat removed the o2 sensors see raw emissions. What would you think the ECM will do about it? The ECM doesn't know the cat is gone and will adapt a new fuel strategy leaning it out even more, than the already too lean factory setting.

My Son has a 2012 Road Glide Ultra with just the catalytic converter removed, all else
on his Bike is as it left the factory OEM stock. Him and his Wife pack double and ride to
my home in Sparks Nevada from Santa Rosa California 2 or 4 times a year "no problems."
His Bike has over 30,000 mile on it, he rides it wide f#@*en open most of the time, and
it runs great.

always curious why people bring back old threads (adam1948), so I read em.
HDSAE60 where did you get this backward information? The O2 sensors are upstream from the cat, they see the exhaust before the cat, once the cat is gone they still see the exhaust as before.
gutting the cat in itself does not change the flow and does not require a tune just for cat removal. It does reduce the heat felt.

Everything I have read here to date on this subject suggests that:
1) removing the cat does not require any changes to A/C or exhaust;
2) any tuner is NOT required (but may be recommended);
3) the Harley Stage 1 download is worthless
4) there is little, if any, performance gain by removing just the cat.
5) sound is subjective
6) there MAY be less heat and therefor some comfort improvement.
I think FuelMoto posted up some dyno results of a run both pre-removal and after removal of the cat and reported the cat made little or no difference in the results.
I know from the photos it appears that hardly ANYTHING could flow thru that metal honeycomb but I think I read where it present little if any obstruction to air flow.
There, a lot about something I know very little about.
