I would say that all depends on if a particular state does an emissions test in addition to a safety inspection.

Maine clamped down on cats this year. They are requiring inspectors to make sure bikes with cats still have cats. They are even checking for cut head pipes and welds. So, all those pricy true dual systems are illegal here now....

The heat on my right leg was UNREAL, and my GF was complaining that her right thigh was so hot, she couldn't take it anymore. My bike was a week old last September, and we cut the Cat out. Sure, it was 85-90 Degrees out then, but the HEAT from the CC sucked. After we gutted the Cat, the heat was GONE, and even the Stock Slip On's sounded decent. I did mine the same way, just cut a window out. I took off my pipe here at home, and my buddies neighbor used the same method and Tigged it closed with Stainless Steel.
I've done some upgrades since then, but I'm still running my stock head pipe.

Send info
I am not including the guys name so I don't get flagged with.....
.... And I already know that.....
But here we go....
Me, and my two riding buddies, just had our CC's cut out by a guy out in west Houston, and he does a GREAT job. He does NOT cut the pipe in half.... This way, there is not fittment issues going back together (too short, or welded back at an angle)
He cuts a widown in the pipe, removes a section, and uses an air chizzle to get all the crap out.... Then welds the widow he cut out back on.
He does super clean work, and it takes about an hour. He charges $100, but don't think if you bring him 10 he'll cut you a deal, he won't, we all 3 tried haha
It is $100 per pipe, take it or leave it. We are all 3 VERY happy with sound and performance after removal.
If you want his info, PM me, and I'll send it your way.
Thanks!!!!
