Default Sissy Bar Back Rest, I dont want it

My 05 Road King Classic came with a nice sissy bar back rest and luggage rack. Its the quick detach kind I think. I just want the luggage rack. Short of just hacksawing the sissy bar off is there any other option? Does HD make a plain luggage rack or does some one have the plain ole luggage rack they would consider trading with me? I hate to ruin something if I can solve the problem cheaply some other way.

The back rest can be handy if you have a T-bag and put it on the rack. Straps will wrap around the back rest and secure it in place.

Caution, if you cut the sissy bar off you will loose the integral stability the upper bar provides. I fear you find yourself with a sloppy luggage rack as the luggage rack portion simply bolts onto the sissy bar. I know HD makes a solo quick detach luggage rack, so I'm sure they make a two up version but am not sure.

That luggage rack should 'unbolt' from the sissy bar, shouldn't it ??
No need to cut n hack with any kind of saw.....

The first thing I checked was for bolts. Its all solidly welded together. The fancy chrome piece with the "V" logo is the only part that is screwed on

My bad.... I didn't read your post correctly, thought you wanted to keep the backrest and ditch the luggage rack.

Never did understand how to read, comprehend, and pay attention in school...
Don't know why it would be any better 37 years later !!!!

Does J&P Cycle sell just a luggage rack ???

No need for a hacksaw if it's removable... Right?

If not removable take the whole thing off, sell it, and buy what you want.

If your stuck with it, Cut the back rest off. clean up the cut & slide a 1 inch piece of shrink tube on to the bar. Keeping the shrink tube back, Weld an acorn nut on both cut ends for looks. Once cool, slide the shrink tube forward until it touches the acorn nut & heat shrink it in place. You will have a clean looking finished product!
Hatch.

You can buy just the rack. So, sell what you have and buy what you want (or maybe you can swap with someone).
