Ultra questions: Lower fairings, chaps
 

With the newer lower fairings having the movable vent panel, is it still necessary or recommended to remove the fairings for warmer weather riding? Also, I'm assuming that with the fairings, a rider would not need to wear chaps. Correct?

I think it depends on how hot it gets in your area.I'm in vegas and in the middle of the summer,your engine and your legs will beg you to remove them to get the xtra airflow!If you ride with your feet on the highway pegs your still gonna get the wind up your leg,just not as much.I think you could get away with the fleece lined jeans from an outdoors sporting good store(bass pro shops,cabelas and such)with the lowers on and be comfy in the winter.Chaps or no chaps is up to the rider's own comfort and safety zone.Happy New Year to ya and ride safe bro!

Depends on your temps. I do wear chaps with mine when the temps are below 40. Also, we get real hot humid weather here in Memphis so I remove the lowers during the very hot summer months. You get a lot more airflow on your torso as well as your legs with the lowers removed. Course, you get caught in the rain, you get wetter as well.

first thing I added to eg classic(could not wait)will find out this spring for certain.It looks like there is a good amount of air flow and expect to just leave them on. plus after putting them on once I think I can cut removel/install time by at least half.
Chaps are not needed as much/often with lowers ,,nice. imo. one thing I have noticed is that in cold weather with chaps and lowers the combo is awsome except toes and grion where chaps dont cover get drafty.

I always thought chaps were for safety, in case you happen to go sliding across the pavement. With chaps you have an extra layer to burn through before your skin comes in contact.

I rode in Sturgis and the Badlands at 105 Degress and above and I had my vents open and had no problem with over-heating

ya, but most people, especially women don't know how to wear chaps. They alway wear them over pants!!

I've always assumed that chaps are for wind/rain protection - and to keep your jeans from flapping around. I'm sure they would offer *some* protection in the event of a low side. Personally, I prefer fairings to chaps.

Lowers with vents plus an oil cooler will be o.k. even in the warm climates. Chaps are a protective layer, either for rain,cold,wind,bugs,etc.. Again rider choice.
In Mi, a set of lowers and chaps allow you to ride and stay comfortable in even the coldest temps!
