I just finished my 02 tc 88 with hydro camplate upgrade, andrews 21's, lifters, pushrods and true dual head pipe and am only getting 34 mpg. Mine is carbed and I am trying to get the A/F ratio right along with the jetting.

I expected to be at around 39 or 40. I am considering a trip to dyno to get everything dailed in.

I agree the problem is with your map (download). I've got 203's in my 103". Prior to cams I was getting low 40's. After cams I had both DynoJet and Fuel Moto send me canned maps for my PCIII. One map gives me mid 30's on mileage, the other, high 20's. I'm working with Keith at Fuel Moto to fine tune his map for better mileage.

You should either get the dealer's stage 2 map download, or better yet get a real tuner so you can adjust and swap maps and/or get a real dyno tune.

My TC88 Road King with 203's, Rinehart slip-ons, Stage I intake gets 44 MPG during Summer, and 38 during Winter. It varies, depending upon the temperature, between those two figures. I used a SERT and a 'canned' map to program the ECM.

Thanks for everyones input, I appreciate it. Have to figure out which way I will go to get the right tune for this set up. After all I dumped into thid thing this winter just don:t want to drop 400 or so on a tuner, guess it's probably what I will have to do.

bad MPG

just bought a used 03 TC88 ultra with screamin eagle stage one kit and screamin eagle slipons. rode 700mi. the first weekend all highway mostly 80mph at 3400 rpm. averaged 30mpg... not happy.
used to have '07 96" 6speed with rinehart true duals and a race tune from dealer in vegas. Always got 42 at same highway speed.

had to get rid of the newer bike... its a money thing

gonna try the 95" stage II big bore kit with and adding two teeth to the front pulley from a 32 to a 34.

may also get aux tanks for iron butt rides. no harleys completed last years iron butt rally!

I am assuming you guys are still riding exactly the same as you did before the cam upgrade. Lots of us like to feel and hear it go after doing upgrades. That right hand behavior can drop your mileage like a rock...just sayin.

Ive got the same problem, added andrews 37 cams to my road king and went from about 240 miles per tank to 160-170. I just noticed it this weekend on my trip to TN my buddy on his road glide was kinda mad because he still had 100+ miles left in his tank and i was having to stop.

Almost made me regret the cams until i would roll on the throttle and walk away from his road glide with the 103 in it.

But I am on the market for a new tuner, looking at Terry components and the new cobra Ive emailed both companies and asked what they offer over the other. we shall see what they say. But soon it will be so long to the power commander.

The mileage does suck especially since we are riding to Myrtle in two weeks. I'm working on tuning for this week. Will update new (hopefully improved) MPG's. Really dont want to stop every 150 when the rides can all get at least 200 per tank!

same story with my 06 FLHTCI TC88 SE203 tru duals K&N and PCIII best I can get is 33 Its a price I will pay for the power. If I lean it 5% over all, I gain 3-7mpg, but the power suffers too much for me.

Theakerr 05-01-2012 04:21 PM

On my 2003 FLHTCi as stock I used to get about 40/42 to the Gal (Can). Put in the big-bore kit, SE breather and had it remapped, mileage increased to about 50. Put in the 203 cams and had it remapped mileage dropped to about 42/43. Roll on is better but not happy as i was told by my dealer that under normal highway conditions I would not see any change. Discussed with my dealer but they wanted a chunk of money to repeat the mapping download. I guess I am going to have to find a good tuner in the area. So anyone know a tuner within 200 km of Pembroke?
