I tend to agree with you. However, most folks, including the Harley dealers do not spend the time to pre fill new oil filters. It takes more than 4 seconds for the filter to fill dry. Even though I do pre fill my oil filters with a few ounces before installation, if you watch your oil pressure gauge after a complete oil change, it does not register even when the filter is pre filled, for aproximately 5 to 6 seconds or more. Food for thought!
EVERY tech I have ever worked with has prefilled the filters, even the dipshits, what fabrik8r points out is more correct than your assesment as with the filter installed oil IS still flowing through the motor, just not enough to build pressure, with the filter off THERE IS NO OIL FLOWING!!
I'm glad it worked for you but there is absolutely no way I'm going to try this,I use top of the line synth oil and the 1/2 qt that I don't get out doesn't bother me at all
Did a flush a week ago. Bought 9 quarts of cheep diesel rated 15w40 and dropped the oil 4 days in a row to flush the dark stuff out and put some M1 in there. Now its like honey agian! Sure beats buying a scavenger and all the other crap you have to do.

'Course there's still a half to a full quart of that "cheep(sp) diesel rated 15w40" in there.............just sayin'..........
my old 57 pan made it 55 years without this kind of **** overanalysis...maintain it sure , but come on...its one step beyond a john deere tractor, but maybe not made as well.....
Old School here. Been riding Harleys since 1967, never woried about the Oil, have always used Hd Dino, With NO problem's. Change Your Oil on a regular basis and You will not have problems. Over 100K on all My Bikes.
I counted to 4 and then shut it off. It looked about like a quart but I did not measure it. Do know that it was dirty and not the clean oil I put in the tank.
