I have a 09 Ultra, and the exhaust is cooking the wife, I understand I need to richen up the fuel to cool things down so…. My dilemma is I have no desire for a louder bike and feel the stock 96 offers plenty of power. So could I do just a V&H fuel pack to richen it up or do I need to move on to the stage 1. I also understand that the PC will give more tune ability but all I am concerned with is cooling the exhaust down. If I must do an exhaust what exhaust offer the least intrusive sound, as I ride A LOT on the interstate at prefer to hear the radio and the wife ( ˝ helmets). Your help and insight is appreciated.
Look into FuelMoto's Jackpot with quiet baffle, together with the removable silent insert, they sound almost stock. If you feel stock setup is fine, you won't notice the slight power gain by removing the insert, which will make it sound deeper and slightly louder.
I cut the cat out of my stock header pipe, added a V&H Fuel Pak and a high flow AC from fuel moto on my 2010. I ran the Fuel Pak for a while with the stock AC but the new AC made a world of difference. Heat is much better but still noticable. Next purchase will be an oil cooler.
Look at Rush ceramic coated head pipes. They will cut the heat by at least 300 degrees! Any ceramic coated pipes will do the same. You could keep your stock mufflers by just changing the head pipes.
I believe the Catalytic converters that are causing the heat is in the slipon mufflers . A pair of SE Nightsticks will keep the stock sound and get rid of alot of heat buildup. Ceramic headers would be a great help along with a Power Commander 5 for a richer AFR and possibly an oil cooler (Ultra cool fan assist) for the full "heat riddance" package. For $150.00 more you can change the air cleaner and also take advantage of increased performance that you have the big bucks invested in already, probably better millage. Get it from Fuelmoto as a package and you will get lifetime warrantys and their excellent maps.
Your're happy with your current power and sound, just get a set of coated headpipes, or get yours coated, no retune necessary at all. I'm not a big fan of wrap, but you can get an OEM take off pretty cheap and wrap it. Same result, less heat felt, no sacrifice in fuel economy that comes along with enrichment.
