your 103 has stock cams....14.7:1 AFR, fuel is too lean to get much pep out of it.

cams and airflow. My '99 TC88 (air, pipes, cams, big mikuni) compared to my '08 TC96 (stock) - the old gal can blow the young pup's doors off - if it had doors.

My well-tuned stage one 88 would beat my buddy's stock 103.
Then he did his stage one with SE 255 cams...
Let's just say, I don't mess with him anymore.

Something has to be said about gearing too...makes a difference, especially if the tune on the 88" is good.

my 103 felt like a completely different beast once i did the a/c, pro pipes and power vision.
Hopefully ill be able to swing the fm 107" upgrade this winter.

Why the obsession with HP and speed on a touring rig?
I'm in absolutely no hurry at all on mine.

I know the newer bikes weight is about 950 lbs. There is your reason why he was able to catch you the older bike are bit lighter.
