Take the windshield off. The top end is louder if you're riding behind a windshield or fairing.

Good adjustable push rods will help instead of the one size fits all stockers.

My RK has a sewing machine sound in the top end too. Its not too bad though. I think that's pretty normal.

Yep, it's normal. Some report here that synthetic oil makes the sound more noticeable and dino oil reduces it to some degree, but it's normal.

Yeah. Mine does, but only when I'm not wearing my earplugs!

Default 2011 FLHX Top End Sounds

I have a stock 2011 FLHX with 16,000 miles and the top end is loud, well noticeable enough, a sewing machine sound. I'm using a 2012 FLHX with 103" engine, 200 miles on it, as a loaner while my bike is being serviced and I notice that it is much quieter, hardly any top end sounds. This sewing machine sound isreally normal??? It sounds to me as if it needs oil or isn't adjusted properly.
I've been riding Ducati's for 20 years and am used to all kinds of clanking clutch sounds, but this top end sound worries me.
Advice??

Ernie.
