Default Question about HD Tour-Pak Brake Light/Running Light/Turn Signal Conversion Kit Part#

The HD website states this conversion kit, #69200042A, is for 97-later Ultra models with the Ultra Tour-Pak. I would like to convert the run/brake lights on a 94 Ultra Tour-Pak to run/brake/turn signal lights and don’t understand why this kit is not compatible with the 94 Ultra Tour-Pak. Does anyone know why this kit can’t be used on my 94 tour-pak? Is the wiring in the main wiring harness for the rear lights the same for the 94 as the 97-later Ultra’s? I don’t have a wiring diagram for both years to be able to compare them. Any help on this would be very appreciated.

Here's a write-up w/ pictures I did when I installed the HD kit. You can compare pictures of what my bike had to what's on your bike, which may provide some help:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...rsion-kit.html

Also, you can compare p/n's for the '94 and '97 using Ronnie's HD website--just go to check-out and you'll get HD p/n's.

Good luck.

I have just fitted a tour pak to my 1995 Roadking. I believe the reason you cant use the wiring kit is because pre 1997 bikes didnt have the relevant wiring/plug already there. I have spliced in to the rear lighting/brake light wiring and fitted a quick detach socket and altered the plug on the tour pak end as well. I have the socket under the seat, so just need to remove the seat when fitting and removing the tour pak.

Harleypingman,

I saw your write up and you did a great job explaining everything. I've looked up the parts on Ronnies but didn't think about the part numbers. I'll have to do that.

patcham48,

I was wondering if the tour-pak wiring harness connection was different from 94 to 97. Thanks for verifying it for me. I can change the connector on the wiring harness since I have all of the tools, pins, sockets and connectors to do this and make it match up. Thanks.
