Default oil leak at oil pan

I just noticed an oil laek from my 2010 Ultra looks like its comoning around the oil pan. I called the stealership to set up an apointment in two weeks. My question is do oil pans leak or should I just replace the oil ring on the drain plug first? I have never had a Harley that has had an oil pan leak. I would hate to take it in for somthing minor

Take no offense but if you can't isolate the leak from the oil pan vrs. the drain plug then you should let the dealer do it.

just had the same issue on my 2010 FLTRX. Apparently there is a service bulletin; the torque spec has changed on the oil pan and transmission cover bolts, increasing the torque. covered under warranty.

those drain plugs leak all the time.....too tight and you could strip the threads....too loose and you get leaks...def put new oil rings in there and white plumers tape works for me.

Bet this is your problem. It's a well documented source of leaks as the stock bolts that hold the exhaust bracket tend to vibrate loose. Then the transmission oil leaks out the bottom of the transmission cover and runs down toward your oil pan plug. This is simple stuff to fix. Read the posts and fixes offered above by ucommbxny. It happened to my 2010 ltd.

Mine did the same. Trans leak after I had the bike a year or so. Dealer fixed it and no problems ever since then.

Hey Guys
Thanks for the help you nailed it. The exaust hanger bolts are gone and there is evidence of a leak. I called the dealer and they know about the service bulletin. This is a great forum, most of you guys are very helpful and the knowledge base is outstanding. I guess one thing about Harley riders are they tend to loyal to their product line so there is many years of experience.
Great work

Hi Guys
I got the new torque specs for the trans and oil pan bolts. 122 in lbs for the small bolts and 22 ft lbs for the big bolts. BTW what was Harley thinking by connecting the exhaust bracket to that housing? Does it mean that they drill all the way through to a open hole. Seems kind off lame too me.
