fluid leak/crash resulted

I have a 2007 Road King (or had)....coming home from work it started to wobble and increased as I proceeded up the road to pull over....I lost control of the bike causing me to slide, striking a tree. Damages were severe and they totalled the bike....I believe it was a fluid leak and the seals failed. My insurance has doubled because of the accident and I have asked for a hearing to dispute it....has anyone ever heard of this happening and have any suggestions...no help on either part of bike shop or insurance company

Where was the fluid leaking from?

EasternSP 07-09-2012 01:08 PM

Ummmm, which fluid? Which seal?

mkguitar 07-09-2012 01:13 PM

gotta be like riding on ice.

supply more details.

even with the rear all squirrely as long as the front is tracking there shouldn't be a problem, given enough space and time to gather wits

Not enough info!!

1flhtk4me 07-09-2012 01:40 PM

Hard to believe.

Had an oil pump go out on my 03 Heritage that had the breathers vented via hoses down under the frame. Got a bit sideways at 65+ when it happened but was able to save it.
Take a real close look for where the fluid may have come from.

shooter5074 07-09-2012 01:51 PM

Was there a trail of the fluids leading up to the tree? What kind of fluids? I have never heard of a catastrophic loss of fluids from a seal..... at least not enough to cause loss of control.

I'm startin' to smell a rat (but I'll give it a little more time)!

mrfikser 07-09-2012 02:39 PM

I had a bike in the 70s that blew a oil line to the cooler and it caused me slide all over the place....but i didn't crash...

That's cause your bell bottom pants and platform disco shoes provided more stability than shorts and sandals, like guys wear today. :icon_laugh:

I have heard of riders crashing before. Hang on tight to the bars.

SG Mike 07-09-2012 03:46 PM

Newbie really looking for a real answer here, please. this sounds really dangerous if it occurs like this.

ybnorml 07-09-2012 06:45 PM

Drain plug from oil pan not fully tightened, then
dumping remaining oil in front of / under rear wheel .....IDFK !!!!!

Maybe the butt leakage was too much and he slid off the seat....
then the bike hits a tree. I still DFK !!!!

OK, back to my gin and tonic

speakerfritz 07-09-2012 08:27 PM

would it make a difference with the insurance company if the problem was mechanical break down???

Lowcountry Joe 07-09-2012 08:44 PM

This is a bull shit post. Let it die. Funny how he "hit a tree" and didn't make a single comment on damage to his own ass.

ironoxide 07-09-2012 08:49 PM

troll action.

upstate tim 07-09-2012 08:52 PM

Never heard of having a hearing about insurance..
Masshole troll.

Jackie Paper 07-09-2012 08:57 PM

Maybe it was the trees fault for getting in the way. Do and address search on the address and see if there's any money there. That's why I live were I live. The leak was probably from your butt when you saw the tree coming at you.

paulhog 07-09-2012 09:01 PM

This actually happened to me once. I was exiting the freeway and this minivan must have lost its oil fiter or something... I didn't go down, but it scared the shit out of me. I saw the van at a gas station at the end of the exit and told him what almost happened. Attendant at the gas station called highway patrol and they coned off the area so nobody else would hit the oil slick. I'm assuming a crew came out later and cleaned up.

Verbal 07-09-2012 09:10 PM

Tree hugger?

thatsalexus? 07-09-2012 09:14 PM

One post and then vanish? I've been around bikes my entire life and unless whatever leaked found it's way under your back tire, I can't see this as viable either.

Sujada 07-10-2012 06:19 PM

The $64,000 question?

Was it dino or synthetic oil?

dgdamore 07-10-2012 07:02 PM

Shouldn't be too difficult to verify the fluid and "seal" in question.
