Key fob arms HD alarm but will start with fob in another state?
So after reading all of the alarm threads and figuring out something wasn't quite right with mine, I am hear to pose a question to those who know about these things...
My '03 EGC has the factory alarm and a fob. The fob will arm/disarm the alarm but the fob is not needed to start the bike. It could be in my pocket, on the counter with the batt out of it, or in another state. Makes no difference, the bike will start if the alarm is not armed. I found the older security instructions a nice fellow posted here and paired the fob to the bike but no change, still starts with out it.
Seems most guys have the opposite problem of not starting when they need it to but mine starts when I don't want it to. Ideas? Thanks, KG

The06 and older?.. (the system with the button on the fob) is a passive system meaning YOU have to arm the security system. The newer buttonless fob system is an ACTIVE security system which arms its self. It sees the fob and disarms the system. It shows it arms each time the ignition is shut off by flashing the turn signals twice 5 seconds after the ign. Is turned off. I believe the older system flashes the turn signals when the button on the fob is pressed showing you armed the system. You do need to press the fob buton to disarm the system.

Wait, so on the older models, there is no fob/imobilizer communication other than arm/disarm? So I either need to arm the alarm or lock the forks down(or both) to secure it? Thanks, KG
