Buy your oil by the drum and change it every other day for the first three years. After that every third day.
Your bike will last forever but your wallet will probably have you assassinated.
This is just my opinion. I change all three fluids every 3,000 miles, and I use Mobil 1 SYN 20x50 In the motor, and Harleys performance plus in the trans and primary, Doing this I got 91,000 trouble free miles out of my 2008 street glide, and I now have a 10 month old 2014 Street Glide Special with 19,000 miles on it already. Living here in South West Florida where it is hot year round, these air cooled motors run very hot. Now I know some will say this is a waist, but I look at it as a good thing to do. I will say when I drain the trans the fluid still looks new. But the oil and primary are always dark in color. It is really important to do the primary, this is why. Some people say it just lubes the chain, well not only does it do that but it also keeps the stator cooler with clean fluid. And the reason it gets dirty so fast is because your clutch plates are always dropping off grit from the plates. I buy the fluids, O-rings and filter for about $115 and I do it myself in an hr. Good luck...
I do all three holes every 5,000, but I pull a trailer. Don't know that I need to do all three that often, but to me its not that much money and I get clean fluids which i figure cant hurt.
I just did the primary after 10,000 and shoot for 5000 on the oil. Tranny is next. I agree with the former post, regarding the south, the heat and humidity hear can take a toll on the air cooled bikes. So making it to 5000 is tough.

Plus one, I don't put the miles I use to so it's like once a year.
