Been looking at new speedo's for my 09 Ultra... the titanium ones to be more specific. Only thing keeping me from ordering right now is that I have to order the speedo with a mileage and not ride my bike until the part gets here or estimate miles and continue riding hoping I don't roll over.... so I have been told.
Then I start reading a thread about the new speedo's for my wife's Sporty; the one with digital speed, analog RPM, gear indicator, and fuel level. From what I gather this thing will calibrate mileage from the ECM as long as you have been rolling with the stock (or other HD speedo)... one guy had issues since he had a Dakota Digital on before.
In the end my Q is... do all the HD speedo's calibrate from the ECM or just the new ones released this year?
I've heard there was a change for '12 where the new speedo would get mileage from ecm. that is change to the bike's ecm, not the speedo (but I'm a 'see it to believe it' guy and I haven't seen it yet). since you have an '09, you will need to provide mileage when speedo is ordered - you can always estimate high, then when speedo arrives, keep riding until you catch up before installing.
Oh ya that's right... there is thread over in the Sporty Forum with experience and it does pull from the ECM. I will have to go find it again to see what year the guys Sporty was... I wanna say it was an 07, but will have to check again.
