Mods that you regretted---
Thought it may be interesting to discuss some of the mods that you made or parts that you purchased that later turned out to be an “Oh Crap” . While looking through the MOCO 2013 catalog, I started wondering “how much of this expensive candy is purchased, installed and later removed “? Or worse yet you can’t change back because of $$$$$$. Not to be a negative thread, just one to stop us mod addicts from wasting $$$$$.

mild regret for the detachable tour pak kit.
for my needs I could have saved the cash and just bolted on and off. it is off most of the year and goes back on twice a year for 3 or 4 weeks at a time. the bolting process only takes 30 minutes max. so mild regret...next time. pt 2.) push button fuel release. was on my bike when i bought it...it failed. Dealer gave me a replacement...it locked shut 800 miles from home. was able to release with feeler gauges after about 90 minutes...and was able to re-fuel just before the gas station closed Mike |
I bought those leather bag lid covers and after awhile I realized they were doing more damage to the paint then would have if they were just bare. Waste of money

Handlebar mounted cup holder.

Nothing on my current bike, but I had a 2001 Road King prior to this one and I bought one of those clock-faced ignition key covers. It lasted about six months before water got inside the face and it stopped running.

I'm happy with the mods on my 09,but when I had my 06 standard I installed the SG fairing mounted mirrors. The first ride down the street I realized they weren't as good(in my situation)as the bar mounted mirrors. But now I had holes in the fairing and I lived with them for 4 yrs.

Tank lift on my Heritage. Hellish mess to put on, less accessible fuel when all my friends had 6 gallon touring bikes, not good.

Power Commander 5 and Auto Tune. Should have gotten the TTS straight out the gate.
|
HOG TUNES for me, there ok, but not what I wanted. went with rockford-fosgate and the ever classic stupid tank bib. that's it.

Push button fuel door release on my 2009 Ultra. Worked form6 months and "locked" shut. Fortunately at home, with fuel left in the tank. Got it pried open without surrounding damage and reinstalled the key release. Fine since.
Got off easy at $29.95! |
