I had pipes and intake and depended on the factory ECM to adjust fuel enough. It did not, based on the increased engine heat, detonation and engine going into heat management mode on occasion.

Whether or not there was enough increased heat to cause valve or piston top damage or burn plugs I don't know, but it was certainly enough to making riding uncomfortable.

Power Commander V added fuel, and the heat went down, pinging stopped and bike is much smoother. Don't know if that is proof or not, but I'm convienced that it was 300.00 well spent.

As you can see, the answers are pretty much all over the floor.

There's a HUGE difference between a fuel management system and tuning system. Most fuel mgt systems do nothing to address any changes in VE's, enleanments, enrichments, timing, temp corrections, and EGR tables to name a few.

Hey, it's your bike and only you can determine how well you want it to perform or last even in a completely (or nearly so) stock configuration.

Hey "Heo" ... as stated earlier, there are more "Expert Opinions" ( mine included ) on this subject than you can shake a stick at ... However, I would guess that before you're through "modding" your new scooter you'll probably do something else that will affect it's tune ... You've got a $20,000.00 scooter, don't cut a corner on getting your AFR ( Air Fuel Ratio number ) where it should be ... The HD Download is a "compromise" between the stock settings ( which can be adjusted minimally through the ECM by means of voltage readings from the O2 Sensors ) and "almost" perfect ratios when tuned by a competent tuner who uses an EGA ( Exhaust Gas Analyzer ) . I have an 09 FLHTCU which had the HD Download ( @ $150.00 ) and wish that I would have spent the extra dollars for a ( my choice now ) Power Commander V in the beginning ... Hope this helps ... Good Luck Brother!

After doing some research and taking some advice from UNCLE LARRY and others, I have decided to go with the Power Commander V.

I bought it today from FuelMoto...great service!!!
