103 Motor

Well i have had my 2012 Street Glide for a few days now. Can someone tell me if there is a optimum rpm range on this motor. Don't want to lug the motor, just like to get the performance out of my bike. Upgraded from sporster, never had tach. Just went by feel. Also what kind of fuel mileage does everyone get out of these 103 motors? I know specs say somewhere around 43 combined, but sometimes that is not the real world. Thanks for information.

I have an Ultra Limited which is heavier than your SG but I have never seen 43 mpg. It was running about 38-39 until I started doing drive train mods. After SE Air Cleaner, SE 204 cams, Power Vision tuner and 2-1 Samson pipe, the mileage is down to 33 mpg but that has more to do with me not being able to stay out of the throttle.

I've got a 103 and I don't shift any less than about 2500 rpm and I'm only getting around 35 maybe 40 mpg just depends whether I'm cruising in town or on the highway but mines still all stock but that's about to change.

I keep mine as close to 3000 rpm as I can. I don't like to get much below 2500. I simply don't want to stress that stock crank any more than necessary.

I live in the flat lands and can cruise at 55 at around 2000 rpm. I generally shift at 2500-3000, higher if I am hitting it. Average mpg is around 40 with as much as 45-46 on a trip with speeds in the 60 range. Vacation in the mountains of NC, VA and WV was getting around 44.

I run 87 octane usually but put some 93 when I was in the mountains and got lower mpg.

I have a 12 Ultra EG with a stage 1. Got about 43-44 mpg before and after the stage 1. That's 2 up riding most of the time but my wife and I are on the small side - 280 lbs. combined. I am not a hard rider and usually shift no higher than 3000 rpms. Usually run 2500 rpms cruising.

Keep going by feel, forget the tach. There is no one right cruising RPM or shifting RPM for all situations. Uphill, downhill, wind, speed limit, riders mood, traffic.......

hammer that puppy. too many people never see the fun side of 4,000.

oh and my mpg was close to 40 on the hwy, 33-36 around town, 30-33 in the pack

I'll add that when I am getting on a busy highway on the way to work, I often will get it well into the 4000 range. Hit the rev limiter a couple times, easy to do accelerating in 2nd.

I have a 2012 Electra Glide Ultra Classic and I average around 40-45 mpg. I have the stage 1 with Rush slip-ons, run 93 octane (no ethanol), and keep the throttle under control. I'm not into drag racing around town on this scooter. I have other scooters if I feel like being loud and obnoxious! :)
