Default Need advise on cams !!!

I have a 2012 Street Glide and I'm looking to upgrade the cams. I can't decide between the SE255 or the SE259e cams. With the SE255, it's just install and go however with the SE259e cams I need to replace the rods and springs. The SE259e cams appear overall better than the SE255 cams. Is the additional cost for the SE259e cams worth what it produces?

Thank's for the help

i had 255's in my 2010 wideglide and they where good, but i did 204's in my 2010 streetglide and they are alot more fun..pull real good from 3k to 6k. i did stage 2 non-streetlegal flash from h-d and there's no popping or anything, its alittle rick on bottom but i dont have the cash for a PC5 and dyno tune right now..i would says its worth spending the money on what you want, it seems the 259's make more power with the right stuff and if thats what you want..do it

+1 on the SE 204's, just put them in and wow.... SE 255's are smog cams, come stock on the CVO I think, give a little more torque then stock but thats about it.

I have a 2008 Ultra Classic that I had the SE 103 stg II kit installed in it. This came with the SE 255's and I ran with them for about 3 years. While it does produce good torque in the low end it runs out of steam quickly (above 4k), I got really poor gas mileage with them (around 33-35), and the oil temperature ran warm (even with an oil cooler).

I have switched to Feuling Reaper 574 cams which have good low end torque and last all a lot longer, I get better gas mileage (38-40mpg), and the oil temperature runs cooler.

The 259e may be too much cam for a stock compression engine (if it really is 9.6:1 as stated on HD's website). Intake close at 47* and 246 duration may perform better @ 10:1 and up. FWIW.

Well pleased with my SE255, SERT, SEAC, and Power Duals dyno dialed in.
It really comes down to what are your preferences in regard to riding style and what you want.
255's match me to a tee, excellent low end, great for 2 up, 6 gear now has meaning.

The 259e cams come with the screamin eagle Stage III and IV kits and are designed for 10.5 compression. They will not run right on a stock compression engine.

The latest Road Iron magazine has a very good write-up on cams, reporting that there are over 200 selections from half a dozen companies. Mine is in the shop right now with Andrews 37's installed but awaiting other parts. If I had the money I would have gone with Fueling but the kit I would like for my bike is 2K.
