Default Zeppelin Seat Install

I received a new Air Zeppelin seat today from benjy’s HD. The seat did not come with any instructions. Where do I find the mating electrical connector? It came with a leather strap about two feet long with metal ends, I think this is new for '06. Where does this attach? Thanks for the help.

Reach down into the square opening in front of your battery.

You'll find an accessory connector there.....hopefully.

Thanks Flying Ace. I did find the connector. It took me a few minutes to figure out the accessory toggle switch had to be on. I still cannot understand where the strap goes. Anyone have an idea? It looks to be a grab strap but I can find nowhere to attach it to the seat and no hardware was included. It could possible attache to the chrome grab bar but I don't see how you can install the seat after the strap is attached.

I called HD support before I bought the seat. The rep said the '06 model Zeppelin Seats had a strap, otherwise they were the same as the earlier models. I have looked at the seat several times and I can't find any place to attach the strap.

The strap is about and inch wide, two feet or slightly longer with the leather at each end rivited to a metal buckle with a single hole thru the metal. I would guess by the size the strap should go between the driver and passenger seat to act as a grap handle. However I can see no place to attach the strap and no hardware was provided.

Does it make sense that it attaches where the passenger handlebars attach?

I tried to attach the strap at the attach points for the chrome grab handles. The buckles didn't fit well. I am now wondering if this the strap is for the road glide and not the FLHT series. Does the road glide have the chrome grab handles?

I did install the seat. It does have a higher and wider seating position than stock. It looks very large, but if it is comfortable I will keep it installed.

Is it possible that your strap attaches the same as a RKC? Mine attaches to the front saddlebag mounts using the same bolt. Give it a try. The bolts that hold the quick disconnects on.

jdove,

The strap is a federaly mandated item that "must be attached" if there is no passenger backrest. It attaches to the front bolt on the front saddlebag mount. If it were my bike I wouldn,t bother with it. It only makes it harder to remove the seat, plus if you didn't have to remove one it's not needed anyway. Look at the new bikes and you will see that the bikes with a tour pac don't have the strap and the others do.
