Still have '02 Mild Custom Sporty 240, '06 Road King Classic that I traded in for UC, Currently '09 Ultra Classic. Spent a lot of moola on those 3 bikes and never kept record of how much I spend because we can't take it with us upstairs or downstairs.
I just don't care. I love doing what I enjoy the most is riding and enjoy the looks of my bikes.
Can pretty much say I'm done with the purchases of 3 Harleys cuz I want to pursue different interests in Life.
Purchased March 2009 brand new UC. I keep a fairly accurate cost records;
So far, I have spent $ 13,883.00 on added parts, oil changes, tires, maintenance, etc, etc. So, not counting insurance cost, interest on the loan payment I figure the bike has cost me near $ 35,000.00 so far. That is about $ 835.00 per month for 40 months. I could vacation in Hawaii for five days every month for 40 months for that amount of money. This is one hell of a love a affair with a machine.
My question is; is this about what others have spent for the same period of time on their bikes?
I am SO glad I don't track it lol. It's all good though, I love it. It's a passion and a hobby all rolled into one. The ultimate escape, I'm hooked!
I was cleaning out some records yesterday and saw my 07 FLSTF was about $5,000 or so in upgrades and I managed to pay it off before I traded it in on my2011 RKC. I did not calc all the stuff so maybe $1,000 for misc oil - tires- and this and that.
My RKC had about $3,000 added to it before I picked it up from the dealer new, cams, exhaust, tuner, backrest.... gads.
i dont want to think about the cost, i just want to ride and tae care of the regular service, i do want WO 515 bars though.
I was fortunate enough to find & buy my 2010 Street Glide used with 88-miles on it! Individual bought it, rode it for one weekend, got scared to death on it, and sold it!
I paid cash for it, and would miss it terribly if I was to quit riding. It's a relaxing, and enjoyable thing for me to get out and ride!
I have spent several thousand dollars on upgrades, accessories ect........ But it's something I enjoy, so it's acceptable as far as I'm concerned!
Just put new tires on my 2010 Dodge 4500 4X4 dually today (105,000 miles in 2-years), and the Michelin Tires were $2,650.00. I find this CRAZY, but the commercial 19.5 tires are expensive, and while part time working and making extra money with my truck, it's a must buy!
I see where others spend there money sitting in a bar drinking all week long, or doing something else that THEY choose to do and enjoy, so it's all relative to each other!

Christ, do you people ever ride these bikes, or just make them show ponies? I'm all for upgrades, but I'd rather ride the thing then work on it.
Sure, we ride them. I got 8100 mi on mine from april to nov. And i was in europe for 3 weeks in oct, not riding at all, or i would have more miles on the clock.
This year i have a ride to FL. and Sturgis planned.
Those two trips alone are 7k.
My bike is my hobby. I don't drink...i don't golf...nothing to spend my money on, other then my bike.

Yep I ride the **** out of it. Do the majority of my upgrades in the winter. I guess I could cover it up for 4 or 5 months but I personally enjoy working on it it helps pass the time during the winter months and I get something new to enjoy when the riding season commences. Who says you can't ride and do upgrades anyway? Does that mean you can't walk and chew gum at the same time?

Then don't. Save all your money and put it in your casket when you die. I will continue to spend mine on things I enjoy whether you approve or not. I am very happy to do so. I enjoy the feeling I get from doing my own upgrades.
