I upgraded my noisy compensator to the SE version about 6000 miles ago on my 2010 SG. I changed the primary fluid today and noticed a lot of Metal shavings on the plug magnet. even more than the first change after the new bike break-in. Is this normal or should I be concerned? Bike is out of warranty and I really want to avoid the big bill after having the dealer tell me everything looks normal.

 

I would expect an above-average amount of small shavings the first oil change after installing the SE comp, but nothing big that would suggest something is breaking apart. I ran my bike a few weeks after the SE comp install and changed the fluid, expecting some contamination from break-in, and there indeed was some. Shavings have been reduced for subsequent changes, although after 25k miles I still get some. I would expect some shavings to show up between oil changes even in a well-broken-in primary.

Check after the next oil change and I'll bet you won't see as much contamination.

 

If you can wait a while the aftermarket is coming on board with an alternative to the SE comp.

Word is you will be able to get different cushion inserts depending on horspower output. Inserts will be like $30 i heard.

 

I bet those are ALOT less clack clack clack sounding. **** you might forget you have a primary with that setup.

This is good news.
The plastic inserts look like "PUR" (crosslinked polyurethane).

This material is extremely tough and has been used for many years to make disposable pavement scraping blades/lips on snow plows.

If the deformation chamber / volume in front of the damping material is well calculated this will last for ages.

 

This is good news! I've planned to change my comp, even though I apparently have a good one, when I changed my front pulley. Think I'll put that off for awhile until this new comp comes out.
